SAFARI PACKAGES & ACCOMODATIONS
Tanzania offers the best safaris in the world that’s why it wins tourism awards for its incredible national parks. Being the best also means that Tanzania safaris are the most expensive within East Africa. While neighboring East Africa countries may offer general wildlife viewing safaris, only Tanzania has the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar Island. Tanzania has the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro. One of the reasons for the elevated cost is that Tanzania offers unique attractions found nowhere else in the World .
A price indication for Safari is rather complicated, because the rates very much depend on the number of people traveling, the travel period, the duration, domestic flights, types of accommodation, etc.
Also the location of lodges will affect the price. On average the cost of Tanzania safari per person staying in Luxury accommodation is roughly $600 to $850 per day. The average cost of safari staying in middle class of accommodation is roughly $350 to $450 per day. The average cost of Budget safari staying in Campsites is roughly $250. The average cost of Staying in Zanzibar cost range from $100 to $500 per day. While the Premium safari package range from $1.000 to $1.500 per day.
This price includes: park fees/transport /Guide/meal/accommodation/AMREF flying doctor /soft drinks/ local flights and not includes: Alcohol/international flights/visa/additional services like hot air balloon, mountain climb, walking safari etc.
When designing your tailor-made safari we counsel to select the hotel/lodges that have the best price/ quality offer. Our minimum standard is mid-range; basic tented camping and budget accommodations.
The prices for a family safari package are surprisingly attractive since children up 15 years pay less park fees and benefit from 25% discount when sharing a room with their parents.
TRAVEL IN LOW SEASON:
Traveling in low season attracts special discount. Within April and May and even November , when the number of visitors drops many accommodations also reduce their rates . This will enable someone to go on a safari that would have costed double or triple the other (high season) months.
BUDGET(camping) SAFARIS:
Camping in national parks is permitted at designated camp sites, or outside the parks by privately-run site. Visitors travel with either their tents and supplies or rent from the local tour operators. A cook will accompany the tour to prepare meals during the safari, as well as pack of all the food needed for the duration of the safari. These necessities must be carried in the safari vehicle , or on top, making the vehicle quite crowded or limiting the option of raising up the convertible roof for a better view of wildlife. At campsites, all facilities are shared with other campsite users and are usually very basic.
While some budget safaris often seek to cut costs by operating old vehicles and offering basic food menus, there are others who do a great job of organizing discount adventures. If you’re prepared to do a bit of research regarding each operator, and don’t mind an adventure featuring basic amenities then you can enjoy a great , simple African safari for less.
CLASSIC (mid-range) SAFARIS:
Classic safaris are the most popular choice of AFRICAN MERAVIGLIA SAFARIS clients. These trips combine a wonderful level of comfort from our specially-selected hospitality providers. We personally ensure the quality of the hotels and lodges we recommend, as we visit them annually. The accommodations we use offer excellent food, wonderful scenery, and amenities such as internet and swimming pools for guests’comfort and enjoyment .
AFRICAN MERAVIGLIA SAFARIS has a team of top guides and clients receive high standard of guiding for the duration of their safari. Our guides are fluent in Italian, English, French, Spanish and German and safe drivers who really know Tanzania and its wildlife.
It is our opinion that the Classic safari is what the majority of travelers to Tanzania are really seeking: guests experience the absolute best of Tanzania in comfort for a reasonable price.
LUXURY SAFARIS:
Luxury safaris go the extra miles to ensure an exquisite experience.Hotel and lodges are located in some of the most picturesque locations with special features such as private pools or saunas. Service standards and meals at these locations are superior to midrange safaris.
These safaris often include special activities and excursions, such as hot –air balloon rides over the Serengeti or riding horses in Arusha National Park. Of course, Luxury Safaris are much more expensive option for touring Tanzania.
PREMIUM SAFARIS:
Premium safaris allow guests to experience award-winning hospitality, such as the Four Seasons, Sasaqwa, Serena, Singita , or And Beyond : companies extolled by international travel magazines. A Premium safari in Tanzania could be the most incredible trip of one’s life. This option is the top tier of travel in Tanzania, but is also by far the most expensive , at an average of USD 800 per night. Some accommodations on premium safaris are located on private game reserves where only clients of the private company are allowed to enter. This makes for a truly exceptional experience.Private chartered flights are an important part of a premium safaris. Flights allow clients to see more of Tanzania in a short amount of time, by air travel from the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania to the Mahale Mountain in Western Tanzania, for example .While all of this sounds incredible, the cost can inhibit some travelers from experiencing this type of travel. Premium safaris are exclusive and not popular for majority of visitors to Tanzania.
Some other costs explained Not included in your safari package are the following:
.Airfare and baggage fees,
. Entry visa to enter Tanzania .
.The cost varies based on your country of citizenship, but is 50 USD for most European and Canadian travelers and is 100 USD for American citizens. Please see the official Tanzanian government page for details, here.
.Tips for your safari driver . In Tanzania it is customary to tip a guide at the end of a safari, to show appreciation for his or her work. 30-50 USD is our recommendation, which can be divided among all members of the safari vehicle.
SELF DRIVE SAFARIS:
There is no option of self-renting a car and driving on your own to the national parks. However, this is not recommended for those unfamiliar with Tanzania for the following reasons;
.A safari is greatly enriched by the knowledge and wisdom of an experienced safari guide. Their trained eyes can spot an animal from a great distance, or determine how recently an elephant passed over the road. A guide tour means a wealth of knowledge and a more culturally-relevant experience in Tanzania,
.If you gate lost without a guide you may be in trouble! Driver guide knows the national parks very well. You will not lose time getting lost in the bush with a drive. This is even more important if you have vehicle trouble or a flat tire. If you have more serious car problem tour company usually send another car so you may continue your safari, but if you are self-driving you will be on your own to find a mechanical and garage (which are not easy to locate in the remote park areas) and safari will be on hold until the vehicle is repaired.
.Safari guides communicate through car radios to share when the Big Five are spotted.Unless you are a fluent Swahili speaker and know the local slang for animal names , you could miss out on seeing an elusive leopard without a guide.
. Self-driven safaris also mean self-organized. Not only will you spend a great deal of time planning and reading reviews to book you own accommodations, but you will also have to locate them all on your own! It is not an easy to drive through unmarked roads in remote areas of Tanzania to find your lodgings, and perhaps impossible to navigate if you are not a fluent Swahili speaker.
AFRICAN MERAVIGLIA SAFARIS we confidently recommend private safaris for the best way to experience Tanzania. Our experts handle all of the booking details and can adapt each itinerary to suit individual interests so that guests can fully enjoy the safari experience.
SAFARI WITH CHILDREN:
Family Safari Holidays in Tanzania
Tanzania is fantastic for family safaris! As the country is situated within Africa’s malaria belt, we don’t recommend travelling here with children under 6 years. However, it’s a great destination for wildlife-loving youngsters aged 6 years and over.
For sheer concentration of animals, Tanzania is hard to beat! Game drives are action packed out here, for example in the areas making up the country’s famous Northern Circuit. These areas are among the most affordable destinations in Africa for family safari holidays. And the larger your group is, the more economical the trip becomes, as the cost of using a vehicle is split among the family. Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) in Tanzania’s south region is worth considering too, and there’s the exciting option of combining your safari with a beach break on Zanzibar!
Throughout the country’s north and south, a lot of properties are well set up for families. For example, they have family rooms or interconnecting rooms. Additionally, some have swimming pools and larger communal areas. And a few companies offer private activities for families, so you can take a flexible approach to your holiday.
Where to go in Tanzania on your family safari
Pick of our places for families in Tanzania are:
The Serengeti – from witnessing the Great Migration to catching sight of the big cats that follow the herds, you and your children will be mesmerized by this national park every time you set off on a traditional game drive!
Ngorongoro Crater – the views from the Crater rim are sure to have you and your little ones gasping with awe. Well worth a visit for the scenic vistas alone, the Crater is also steeped in history, so the kids can enjoy a little learning as you cruise along the caldera floor.
Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) – Nyerere is a watery world filled with palm trees, boat cruises, and of course some wonderful wildlife. This reserve is perfect for a quieter family safari!
Zanzibar – you can’t beat family time spent on the beach, and that’s why we recommend a few days’ post-safari along the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar!
Recommended family activities in Tanzania
Family game drives in Ngorongoro: Game drives in Ngorongoro Crater are pretty special. If you stay at a property that supplies a private vehicle for your family, you’ll be able to explore well away from the crowds. These areas also offer cultural activities with appeal for all ages. Adults can enjoy interacting with work-age and elderly members of a community, while kids can meet the local children. Family activities in the Serengeti: The Serengeti really excels when it comes to safari activities for youngsters – tracking, making bows-and-arrows, and going on walks around camp with staff, are just a few examples of what kids can get up to here. There’s always something to look at close to camp, from birds to smaller mammals, and the staff are great at entertaining children. Family activities in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous): In Nyerere, there’s fishing and canoeing, at least for older children. Walking has a minimum age requirement of 15 years, so this activity is available for mid- to late teenagers. Walks provide thrilling opportunities to experience the bush, offering a different perspective from game drives. Family activities in Zanzibar: Zanzibar offers plenty of things to do too, such as playing on the beach, trying a few watersports, and taking trips to spice farms, Jozani Forest, and tortoise-tastic Prison Island!
SAFARI FOR SENIORS AND PEOPLE WITH PHISICAL CHALLENGES
Traveling is the right for everyone because we believe in responsible and inclusive Tourism. At AFRICAN MERAVIGLIA SAFARIS we do provide experiences in Tanzania Safari for older and people with disability across all our services being on Safari, Kilimanjaro Climbing, Cultural and Historical tours.
There are number of points to consider when planning a trip as an older or a person with disability.
Safety on Safari for Older and People with Disability
This is the key consideration for planning a safari for Older and People with disability in Tanzania. Safety comes at the point of mutual understanding and specification of what type of disability an expected traveler has. We do believe and understand that no disability is the same.
We highly recommend for a traveler to be precise and specific on what type of disability a person has as well as explaining some of the extra needs with the aid of a friend or relative if necessary.
Our Safari VEHICLES
The Safari cars we are using for Safari in Tanzania are 4×4 jeeps which are Toyota land cruisers. This is because of the bumpy and rough roads in many tourist destinations. These jeeps are comfortable for both roads with seat belts to facilitate the needs of older and people with disability. They have pop-up roofs and comprise of refrigerator for cold drinks whenever necessary, charging system to easy photographing and communication while in the wilderness. Without forgetting wide windows for animal viewing and photographing.
What happens if the jeep breaks down?
The vehicles are serviced and maintained to a very high standard before, during and after every safari. The age of the vehicles in our fleet varies but most were built between 2008 and 2013. If the vehicle does break down and it can not be fixed on the road we will request rescue jeep which will come so that the clients can continue their safari with minimum impact. Whilst every effort is made to prevent this from happening, the driving is rough and vehicles do take quite a pounding.
